Chief Marketing Officer James McGuirk shared insight into the company culture at TQI Solutions Inc.
What makes your business a top employer? TQI Solutions is unique to the information technology services industry by providing top-level consultants whose expertise and performance is usually reflective of a large business while still offering the flexibility, agility and responsiveness prevalent within our small-business profile. We maintain a collaborative environment and provide opportunities for employees to make the firm an even better place to work.
How do you measure employee satisfaction? We perform routine employee surveys that allow for suggestions and recommendations for improvement. These responses and associated metrics are collected and assessed to consistently look for ways to improve employee satisfaction, increase our employee’s work-life balance and overall employee morale.
What strategies do you have for retaining employees? TQI offers a variety of employee incentives that support continued education, technical certifications and performance bonuses.
What do you do to develop employees and help them grow? TQI is developing a career model for our employees that defines expectations and qualifications required for advancement. TQI also sets aside funding for education, training, and certifications applicable to the job.
Are you hiring? We are regularly hiring for business systems analysts, IT specialists, systems engineers, management analysts and corporate staff.
How did COVID-19 affect your workplace? Any lessons learned? We were in the first year of the execution of our strategic plan when COVID-19 drastically changed our business. Whereas a majority of our employees worked either in the office or at the client’s site, we quickly adjusted to employees working from home. We learned that there are many things that can be done effectively and efficiently in a remote environment. We also learned that we needed to adjust and change how we communicated with the team. More recently, we have migrated into more of a hybrid model, which provides better opportunities for collaboration but also provides flexibility for our staff while aligning with our clients’ expectations.
